Blues Rhythm and Back-up Tracks

In Flatpicking the Blues Brad Davis provided several examples of the blues shuffle rhythm, a number of different resolves, or turn-arounds, connecting bass runs, and variations of the 12-bar blues rhythm format. On this page of the web site we will provide you with more variations and embellishment ideas that you can add to your blues rhythm repertoire.

On the audio CD which accompanies the Flatpicking the Blues book Brad Davis provides a number of different rhythm tracks for you to work with as accompaniment to your free-from improvisation exercises. On this page we will soon begin posting additional tracks with alternate chord progresions in various keys which you can work with to expand your free-form improvisation practice in the context of the blues. For now, work with the tracks that are provided on the audio CD which accompanies the book. By the end of January we will have a few more tracks posted here that you can download and practice with.

Another great source of this material in the context of the blues is Dix Bruce's Blues Back-up Trax book/CD set. Click <here> to find out more about his book/CD set.

In the context of flatpicking fiddle tunes and bluegrass songs, Brad Davis' Flatpick Jam series is a wonderful accompaniment tool to use. Click <here> to find out more about Brad Davis' Flatpick Jam DVDs and CDs.
