In October 2006 FGM Records
released Grassoline, Mo Canada’s exciting new bluegrass instrumental
CD. This CD features 12 instrumental selections performed by some of
today’s most talented bluegrass musicians. Joining Mo Canada on
this disc are: Tony Rice, Randy Kohrs, Phil Leadbetter, Rickie Simpkins,
Kevin Light, Darrell Webb, Ed Canada, Chad Light, Scott Vestal, Taro
Inoue, Raymond McLain, and JP Mathes. The CD was engineered and mixed
by Wyatt Rice.
On ten of the twelve tracks Mo is accompanied by a full band. On “Old
Grey Coat” he plays a duo with Tony Rice, and on the great bluegrass
flatpicking standard, “Lonesome Ruben,” he plays solo. For
this month’s e-newsletter lesson Mo has transcribed his first
pass at the tune. As with most flatpicked versions of ”Lonesome
Ruben,”, Mo has tuned the low E string down to D. On the mp3 which
accompanies this lesson you can hear Mo’s first pass. If you’d
