Our Back-to-Basics Issue!

This is a very special issue, one that has the intention and focus of getting you off to a good start if you are new to Flatpicking, or bringing you back to an emphasis on the basics of the art if you have been picking for a while. Each of our talented columnists have presented a topic that is fundamental to your development as a flatpicking guitar player. These are aspects of your craft that you will continue to practice from the time you are a beginner and throughout your flatpicking life, even if you become a seasoned professional. Additionally, we feature two talented muscians, Courtney Hartman, originally from Colorado, but now living in Boston, and Rosser Clark, originally from Alabama, but now living in Falls Church, Virginia. We hope that you will enjoy getting back to basics and "woodshedding" with this special issue.

This issue features Jack Pearson on the cover. Jack is well known in the blues and rock worlds, having toured with the Allman Brothers in the 1990s, however, he is out playing acoustic guitar these days and performing with bluegrass artists. This is the guitar player who David Grier says is "The best guitar player in Nashville." Additionally, this issue features Al Smith, of Jasper, Georgia, and Nick DiSebastian, who recently finished his degree at Berklee and is still living and performing in Boston. Special Crosspicking Issue!

This issue is our special crosspicking issue. Crosspicking is a technique that all flatpicking guitar players have used dating back to George Shuffler's work with the Stanley Brothers in the late 1950s. In this issue our colomnist will provide you with lots of crosspicking examples to work with. In this issue we also highlight Lucas White of Texas and Virginia, and Adam Schlenker of Columbus, Ohio. Special Doc Watson Tribute Issue!

This is our special Doc Watson tribute issue. As all of you will know, we lost Doc Watson earlier this year and as a tribute to the man who has inspired so many of us over the course of his long career, all of my contributors have sent in tunes that they were inspired to learn how to play after hearing Doc Watson play the tune.
