Hello and welcome once again to Flatpicking guitar magazine’s free lesson portion of our monthly newsletter! This month is very special! As you are reading this I am running a 30 day ALL or NOTHING Kickstarter campaign to help fund the creation of my most ambitious musical project ever!

The project is called “Voices: A Folk Opera.” It’s a concept album that combines elements of Broadway and Disney with folk and bluegrass. The album has all original characters, storyline, and reoccurring musical themes. If you have enjoyed my lessons over the years PLEASE contribute to the Kickstarter. Making a pledge takes one minute! This G melody is a version of our “Home Theme” from the Folk Opera. The melody appears throughout the album in different ways. The mp3 I have included as the lesson mp3 is actually one of the first “Folk Opera” demos I recorded while working on different ways to compose our “Home Theme.” I don’t want to give away any of the story but I love sharing the musical ideas that go into writing a developing a concept album. I thought it would be cool to not only teach one of the flatpicking sections off the “Folk Opera” but to use my actual demo. This was recorded right after I wrote this melody almost two years ago.
