Adam Granger published the first edition of Granger’s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar in 1979. A second edition was published in 1994. Now, in 2021, Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and flatpick.com present the new third edition of the book. This book is the most extensive source of fiddle tunes for the flatpicking guitar player in existence. There are 508 unique fiddle tunes referenced under 2500 names (in the previous editions there were only 1000 cross-referenced titles). In the new edition all tunes are typeset, instead of handwritten as they were in the previous editions. Thus the tabs are much easier to read. In addition, you can now download audio tracks to all 508 tunes. These audio tracks were previously only available on CD. The move to digital download mp3 files makes obtaining the audio tracks much more affordable.

We are announcing the release of the third edition of Granger’s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar this month and so this month’s free lesson is a tune from that book, “Cotton Patch Rag.” Like all of the tunes in this book, the presentation is given in Adam Granger’s Easytab. Readers of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine will be familiar with Easytab as all of Adam Granger’s columns were presented in this format. If you are not familiar with Easytab, there is a clear explanation in the book. This month’s lesson is presented as it appears in the book.
